You typically should sign up for Medicare up to 3 months prior to your 65th birthday month. Not everyone should sign up then, but if you have individual insurance you should.
If you are over 65 and coming off of group health insurance, then you will need a couple of forms to apply for Medicare and avoid any penalties.
You do not have to enroll in Medicare if you continue to work and are covered through your employment group coverage (as long as the group coverage is creditable)
Original Medicare with a supplemental plan is the most flexible with the least hidden costs to the policy holder.
Not by Original Medicare! But...Original Medicare does cover glaucoma, cataracts, and medically necessary eye diseases, but not routine dental or vision exams.
